The Specialized Diverge S-works frame was designed from the ground up to be a 'machine' for exploration. It is also capable of tackling off-road climbs as much as rides to get ice cream or go for a ride with friends. Although it may sound like something obvious and already heard, the Diverge Comp is a bike that can really do it all. The new frame has more tire spacing, it can accommodate sections up to 42mm. We also lightened the bike by taking cues from our Roubaix category, and its FACT 9r carbon fiber frame is now one of the lightest in this category. The next step was to abandon the classic cyclocross-type geometry and develop a new, never-before-seen Open Road geometry. You may be thinking "another pure marketing term," but the fact is that we have really developed an entirely new geometry for the Diverge. You can think of it as a 'road' version of modern trail geometry. It provides for an agile ride, precise steering so you can have as much fun in the mud as on the road. The bottom bracket is half an inch lower than the previous Diverge, the head angle is more open, the chainstays short and a short wheelbase. A fun bike in the mud, performance bike on the road. Although riding white roads or trails on a regular road bike can add thrill to the adventure, there is a limit to how much the slightly wider, low-pressure tires can absorb. With this in mind, we implemented a new version of our Future Shock device into the design of the Diverge. This cushions shocks and makes the ride much more predictable, because the wheelbase doesn't lengthen when you take a bump-so the Diverge's front end maintains the same steering angle. In other words, you won't be surprised by understeer or lack of handling. Unlike the original Future Shock, the version for the Diverge has a progressive spring, to make this technology more suitable for off-road use, where stiffer suspension is often needed to absorb larger bumps.
