The Maxxis Assegai tire takes its name from the iron-tipped spear used by the Zulu people of South Africa. Greg Minnaar, three-time Downhill World Champion and originally from South Africa, thought it was an appropriate name for a tire ready to battle on the mountain. The tall knobs attack dust and dirt to find traction, but they also provide support and security on wet roots and rocks. While other tires excel only in certain conditions, the new Assegai is built to go fast anywhere.
